The Festival
of the Candlesticks in SaSSari

A centuries-old devotion

The March of the Candelieri in Sassari is a five-century-old festival which, every August 14th, celebrates the city’s devotion for the Madonna dell’Assunta. Thirteen big wooden candles are carried on the participants’ shoulders across the city streets, up to the Santa Maria of Betlem Church. Every year the Faradda di li Candareri – as the celebration is called in the vernacular of Sassari – attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world.
